Conservation of water is the need of the hour today. This is because the ever - increasing population has put an immense pressure on our life - sustaining water resources. As citizens of the world , we can , in our small way , contribute towards water conservation. Firstly, we can implement rain - water harvesting in all our homes. Also, waste water can be recycled by utilising it for small tasks like gardening. Then, closing of taps and showers and then repairing dripping taps will go a long way in this endeavour. In agriculture, efficient irrigation systems like drip irrigation and overhead irrigation can make a difference in both the yield and the water conservation. After that, recharge pits can be dug, which can capture rainwater and stop runoff. This will recharge ground water supply. On a global scale, trees can be planted. This measure will prevent water runoff. Also, it will help rainwater penetrate the soil. Another efficient measure is to use desalination techniques such as distillation, electro - dialysis and reverse - osmosis for purification of water. On a similar note, sewage water can be treated in certified sewage treatment plants for drinking purposes. Lastly, storage of water can also be done in a scientific manner. Doing so will enhance the efficiency of utilisation of harvested water. Let us join hands and conserve water. After all, small drops make an ocean.
